Corporate Social Responsibility
We believe in giving back to society at Tong Ming Xi. As musicians ourselves, we have experienced the magic of music and we would like to share that gift of music with others by leveraging on our passion and skills in the restoration of string instruments. If you’re interested in working with us to give back, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Project Restoring Hope
In the month of June, Tong Ming Xi Gallery launched Project “Restoring Hope”. This project aims to:
1) Provide children in need with an opportunity to learn the violin
2) Share the gift of music with children in need
Through this programme, we intend to collect old, unwanted violins of all sizes and restore them before donating them to Lakeside Family Centre.
The beneficiaries will also learn how to play simple pieces on the violin under the tutelage of volunteer teachers.
About Our Beneficiary: Lakeside Family Centre
We have selected Lakeside Family Centre to be our beneficiary. Lakeside Family Centre is an adopted charity organisation supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). With centres located in Jurong West, Jurong East and Taman Jurong, Lakeside Family Centre serves 220 children, most of whom come from financially unstable or dysfunctional families. Some children have mild autism and ADHD.
In 2008, Lakeside Family Centre’s Jurong East branch started a Creative Arts program. Under the program, violin, drama, dance and guitar-related activities are organized for the children. At the moment, only its Jurong East branch runs the Creative Arts program. The centre wishes to extend the program to its Taman Jurong and Jurong West branches, which would only be possible with more volunteers and more instruments.
Currently, Lakeside Family Centre’s violin club has 20 students, whose ages range from 7 – 13 years. Every year, the centre holds a concert at Agape Methodist Church to showcase what the students have learnt and to provide them with an opportunity to experience performing onstage. The centre’s biggest dream in the long run is to hold a fund-raising concert for the children.
