The 18th century English style of violin making adheres strongly with Stainer model and this persisted through to middle of 19th Century. One good example is this fine c.1810 labelled Samuel Gilkes which has a typical influence from Stainer with the high arch and rounded belly. Its dark voice is also rich and easy to play making it suitable for advancing players who at times need a forgiving instrument.
